About Éva Ostrowska

Ten years on a single question: what happens to love when the other person becomes optional.

Éva Ostrowska’s work translates the immateriality of digital life into something tactile, slow, and enduringly material. From dating app interfaces to AI companion conversations, from ChatGPT breakup texts to self-marriage in the metaverse, each piece fossilizes the fleeting exchanges of contemporary love into permanent material form. Where a swipe takes a second, a tapestry takes months.

Her work began in 2016 with two books of 35mm photographs on the destruction of a woman inside a love story, and, the same year, with a wedding: she married herself at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, then renewed the vows in the metaverse in 2022. Together they opened an ongoing investigation into attachment, dependency, and the search for reliable connection.

Exhibited at Bozar Brussels, the Vitra Design Museum, GIBCA Gothenburg and iMAL Brussels. Held in public and private collections including the MoMA Library and the Franklin Furnace Archives, New York.
